An electronic introduction to the Astronomical Data Center
at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center

The Astronomical Data Center (ADC) is an element of the Space Science Data Operations Office at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

The ADC archives hold more than 4000 catalogs and tables of astrometry, photometry, spectroscopy, radio, and other miscellaneous data for both stellar and nonstellar objects. The data were acquired through exchanges with the Centre de Données Astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS) , other astronomical data centers throughout the world, and by direct contributions from the international astronomical community.

To date the ADC has distributed over 500000 datasets on computer networks, tape, CD-ROM, microfiche, and microfilm to more than 10000 individual requesters. The ADC has provided data and/or software to several NASA space astronomy projects, including the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS), the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE), the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE), and the ASTRO Ultraviolet and X-ray Astronomy Mission, Compton GRO, ROSAT, and the EUVE.
